Russell Snyder

Russell Snyder, or Russ for short, is a hometown hero from Tiffin, Ohio.  Russ competed in several sports for Tiffin Columbian High School, thus spawning his love for athletics and broadcasting.  Through his career he has worked at several radio stations before finally landing at his current spot in Tiffin Ohio.  Russ is a man of many titles such as:

Voice of The Dragons

Director of Broadcast Operations

Russ started the internet radio station WTUD at Tiffin University on September 1st 2014 and has since been a huge hit.  This is not his first internet radio station though, Russ started (and still runs) Pool House Rocks! an internet radio station playing cool vibe music for the listeners.

Russ really knows his music and has bestowed more knowledge to the WTUD crew about bands than we could handle.  Russ is known as a "Dead Head", a huge fanatic of the band The Grateful Dead and has seen an immense amount of music concerts.  Tiffin University prides itself on bringing in individuals that truly know their field and Russ knows music better than anyone I've ever met.

Russ' job varies from day to day as WTUD is a busy place to work.  Some days you can find him in the radio house on the campus of Tiffin University sippin' coffee and rockin' out to old school rock n' roll, but often he is preparing for the busy sports schedule. Russ is responsible for ensuring the broadcasts go off without a hitch, even when conditions are not ideal.  Finding the best possible broadcast and filming position for the numerous sports that Tiffin University offers can be difficult in itself, but that doesn’t even touch the tip of the iceberg that Russ has in duties.  Along with the broadcast for home events, WTUD hits the road for away games and understanding the amount of gear that is lugged around for each event is exhausting.  With multiple camera angles, multiple mixers (both audio and video) as well as two laptops the bags can get quite heavy.

While most of Russ’ work can be seen at athletic events, he does so much more around the university.  Russ helps out with many different video projects in terms of filming and editing promos for the sports team and other organizations.  The theater productions are often assisted by Russ in making copies and understanding the video equipment.  Russ also helps out with the music programs events and films them to put them on the live streaming services.

Russ has been an incredible mentor in his advice about becoming a sports broadcaster.  When I first started with WTUD back in 2014 I loved sports and loved talking about it, but my mannerisms and word choice wasn’t always the best.  Russ has helped me relax on the microphone and learn to be myself, I have developed a great sense of pride and my own unique twist when broadcasting events.  My favorite piece of advice he has given me is to “just have fun with it”, he is constantly telling me if you take things too serious you cannot enjoy them and that has helped out in many facets of life!
