Work Plan

Name and Bio:

WTUD TU Dragon Radio is an internet radio station and was founded by Russell Snyder on September 1st 2014 and has changed the face of Tiffin University ever since.  WTUD is located on the campus of Tiffin University in Tiffin, Ohio and has been bringing students cool jams and live sports broadcasts ever since.  Russ' official title is quite lengthy as is his resume!  Russ' title is:

Voice of The Dragons

Director of Broadcast Operations

WTUD digital audio/video

snyderr@tiffin.edu

Prior to WTUD there was not nearly as quality a sports cast and the professional atmosphere of an on campus radio station was lacking.  Russ was able to turn the campus' broadcasts into something people can be proud of and proudly display their athletic and artistic skills to the world.

Key Individuals:

Russ is the founder and head of WTUD and along his side are Matt Kibler and myself, Chalin Cahlik.  Russ has also done a fantastic job of bringing student help into the station to allow individuals the opportunity to further their knowledge and experience in a radio station atmosphere.  With students learning how to operate audio and video equipment such as mixers, cameras and advertisement software.

Scheduling:

Working at WTUD has many pros, but the cons are very apparent in the scheduling. Working at WTUD means being present at any and all sporting events that are on campus and many that are off campus at other universities.  As such the scheduling can be quite difficult as the days you work each week can be changed.  Each sport also changes the times and days they might play between Soccer, Volleyball and Football to both Men's and Women's Basketball.  The days fluctuate, but usually happen Thursday-Sunday and event times vary but usually last 3 hours+ for each event.

General Duties:

General duties of working at WTUD include (but are not limited to):

  • Running the audio mixer

  • Running the video mixer

  • Setting up video equipment

  • Running large scale cameras

  • Broadcasting events

  • Learning and running advertising software

  • Learning and running radio streaming software

During my time with WTUD I was not paid as I was working with the Tiffin University Tennis Team as an assistant coach and working with the athletic department doing statistical work.  Through the tennis team and athletic department I received a graduate assistant position to receive a master's degree.

Goals and Outcome:

My goals and expected outcomes were all realized during my time with WTUD.  I love the radio business and love broadcasting sporting events.  My goals were to become better at broadcasting and learn as much about the industry as I possibly could.  Russ was amazing at giving me as much time on the microphone as I could handle and I believe I have become a better future employee because of it.
